Accompaniment
Patients and their family are accompanied by a team of volunteers, trained in psycho-social, emotional and spiritual care for the dying. The team can also provide assistance in the writing of ‘advance directives’ and other related decisions.
La Maison de Tara is able to call on members of the international community residing in Geneva to enable patients to communicate in their own language, where necessary.
A sense of loss may generate very strong emotions which may be difficult to cope with for the patient, the family and close friends.
Specific needs may arise :
- The need to be accepted, just as we are, with our bad moods, our fears, our anger but also with our joy, our love, our memories, the whole of our humanity.
- The need to be reconnected to our personal resources thanks to the presence, mindful listening, humour and serenity of carers.
The spiritual dimension is an integral part of a human being. It gives meaning to everything and takes on a profound, truly essential dimension when one’s life is coming to an end.
Spiritual care can emerge from anyone working at La Maison de Tara. But naturally, chaplains and representatives of various religions can be contacted at any time at the patient’s or the family’s request. If a resident does not have a personal connection with a representative in Geneva of his or her religious affiliation, we are in contact with chaplains, representing all the principal religious groups in Geneva, who are willing to minister to residents of La Maison de Tara at any time.
